Wow, it’s been a minute, hasn’t it? A whole year, actually. Life has been… a lot since my last post, but I’m finally back here, in my cosy little corner of the internet, ready to share what’s been happening. So grab your beverage of choice (mine’s a big cup of tea as always, some things never change), and let’s catch up!
Redundancy… and reinvention
First things first: in early 2024, I took voluntary redundancy from my job. I’d previously survived a round of layoffs, and it was one of the most unpleasant things I’d experienced. So when more redundancies were coming up just a couple of months later, I accepted a voluntary redundancy package and bid farewell to my role of two years.
As sad as this time was, it opened the door to something I’ve always dreamed about: starting my own business. It’s still fairly early days, but I’ve been pouring my heart and soul into building something I’m genuinely so excited and passionate about. I’ll spill all the details in a separate blog post soon – stay tuned!
Diving into books
With all the changes this year, I found myself reaching for books more than ever (and had more time to read them, yay!). I read 17 books in 2024, a nice mix of autobiographies, non-fiction, and fiction, and loved most of them. Two standouts? Where The Crawdads Sing (I know, I’m late to the party as ever!) was such a beautifully written, emotional journey. And on a completely different note, American Kingpin (about the infamous Silk Road on the dark web) absolutely gripped me. Drama! Government corruption! Bitcoin! Online privacy! The whole thing is wild, and I’ve officially become a bit of a Silk Road Historian. This past year, reading became such a haven for me, and I’m so glad I had the time to fall back in love with it.
Lovely moments along the way
As always, day to day life has ticked along and I’ve enjoyed some truly lovely times. In the summer, Jamie and I spent a week in Killarney and explored Co Kerry, which was incredible; horseback riding through the Killarney National Park, driving around the Ring of Kerry, going on the Sea Safari in Dingle. Our base was the Aghadoe Heights Hotel, which was very hard to leave… an exceptionally beautiful hotel that we definitely intend to return to someday. Another highlight – we went to An Evening with Fran Lebowitz when she came to Dublin for a one-night-only event. Not only was she as hilarious and sharp as ever, but I got to meet her afterwards! She signed my book – “To Sarah – Your pal, Fran” – still buzzing!
A fresh start
Now, here I am, finally dusting off the blog and feeling ready to write again. I’ve missed this space – the creativity, the connection, and the simple joy of sharing little pieces of life with you all. But more than that, I feel like I want to get back to that version of myself. The one who loved documenting life, taking photographs, writing, reflecting, connecting. I miss that girl, and I miss those times. Writing here feels like a step toward finding her again. Next step, my Instagram, which I have also been neglecting.
So! Going forward, you can expect more updates on what I’m up to (hello, business adventures!), what I’m loving, and all the other random little musings that make life what it is. I’m not sure if blogs are read as much anymore, but I miss those days and feel like I want to try and keep it alive. Til next time x
