Königssee
First up in my retrospective blogging, a visit to Königssee... from 2017!
Nestled in Berchtesgaden National Park and surrounded by the Alps, Königssee is one of the finest jewels in Bavaria's already jewel-laden crown. It's German for 'King's Lake', and it's not hard to see why it has a majestic name. As we walked through the woodland and began to see the lake through the trees, my jaw dropped. It was honestly like heaven on earth; such natural and awe-inspiring beauty that my photography couldn't truly capture; it's one of those places that cameras just don't do justice.
We visited in March and as you can see, the lake was almost completely frozen over- I'd never seen anything like it. Although it was beginning to thaw out in the middle, creating a stunning visual with the reflections of the surrounding mountains and trees. We found a spot overlooking the lake and sat down; even though it was cold, I was captivated for hours. We had planned to visit the Eagle's Nest as well, but it was closed for the season; so we enjoyed our time walking along the surrounding woodland of the lake and just taking it all in.
I really hope to visit again someday, perhaps when the lake is not frozen, and go on a boat tour. With only electric boats being used since 1909, it's said to be Germany's cleanest lake. I love how nature here is not only appreciated, but respected and so well looked after.
