Old Spitalfields Market
Everyone's heard of Old Spitalfields Market, yet despite travelling to London many times over the years, I had never properly visited. So on my last trip, when I was staying in nearby Shoreditch, I made sure to pop over and tick it off my to-do list.
From second hand books and clothes, to all manner of vintage trinkets and antiques, Old Spitalfields Market is eclectic and charming in equal measure. Perhaps more eclectic than the market stalls though are the wide range of food and drinks vendors. Everything from Indian to Italian, Chinese to Caribbean, Greek to Turkish (and good old British, too) is on offer. I had already filled up on a huge breakfast before I went (oops), so only had room for a bit of a snack - guacamole and tortilla chips to be precise - and a fresh lemonade. Both delicious, but when I'm back I'll make sure to arrive on an empty stomach..!
Have you been to Spitalfields before? x

I loved Spitalfields, but I went to Camden Lock recently and that too blew me away with all the street food and vintage goods on offer. Love your photos, you managed to really pull out the essence of the place with your images.

Thank you! Oh and I frigging LOVE Camden Lock! I always have to go there when I’m in London, Camden Town is probably my favourite spot in town ♥️

My mother was a trader at Spitalfields Market for 9 years. She was thrown out of the market without any notice or reason. Last Christmas her stock worth £1800 was stolen from the storage that she pays rent for. The management refused to check CCTV cameras or to compensate her for her loss. After being thrown out she had to carry all her stock of London’s souvenirs home. Half of lounge is now filled with stock that she can’t even get rid of. This is the other very ugly side of Spitalfields Market. How traders are treated is very unfair.

I’m very sorry to hear about the awful way your mum was treated, that’s so unfair :(
