I’ve decided to start a little series featuring some bloggers who I love and had a opportunity to get a bit of a chat with, starting with some fellow Northern Irish gals! Meet Vicki, the lovely lady behind The Magpie Girl.
Hi Vicki! For anyone who isn’t familiar with the Magpie Girl, tell us a little about yourself and your blog!
Hi Sarah! Well, my name is Vicki, I live in the Northern Irish countryside with my husband Dave & our two loveable four legged scamps Pixie & Chomper. I’m a Project Manager by day and a blogger, DIYer, crafter by night.
So, what inspired you to begin blogging?
I read an article about Rumi from Fashion Toast in a magazine and started reading blogs after that and got inspired to start my own. I found it a great creative outlet at a time in my life when I was lacking that chance to be creative not long after finishing my Fashion degree.
What has been your blogging highlight, or the most exciting thing to happen so far as a result of your blog?
Ooh gosh good question there has been sooo many! I think getting taken on a press trip to Berlin for Fashion Week in 2014 has to be the biggest highlight!
What is your favourite subject to blog about (outfits, interiors, life posts etc.)?
I think probably interiors and home décor especially when I can share changes or updates from my own home.
Your top tip/a snippet of advice for newbie bloggers?
Write about what you’re interested in, and what inspires you, not what you think people will want to see and try not to copy anyone else. If you don’t feel like yourself through your blog then you will soon give up. Also photo quality and size is important too so practice your skills and always align your photos and format them all the same width.
It’s lovely to discover other Northern Ireland bloggers. What would be your personal top three must-visits in NI?
I could go for the obvious Giants Causeway etc. but instead I’ll keep it more personal, I just love Hillsborough Forest Park for an afternoon walk and then into the village for a cuppa coffee afterwards. Ballycastle beach is just beautiful (it’s where I got engaged so I’m kinda biased!) and again the town is a great place to spend a day exploring and eating in the lovely cafes. Lastly the Titanic building and exhibition in Belfast is well worth a visit!
Tell me your idea of the perfect Saturday – what do you like to get up to?
My perfect Saturday would be a lazy slow start around 9am, breakfast of toasted bagels, smashed avocado & soft poached eggs with tea on the sofa with Dave & whatever Netflix series we are watching. Followed by a morning walk with our dogs somewhere like Hillsborough Park or the Windy Gap, we love exploring new trails and forest paths so somewhere different would be nice. Then a trip into town for a little window shopping- have to stop in on H&M and TKmaxx in case there are any bargains! Then the essential Café Nero pit stop for a mocha and red velvet cake. Then home for the evening with a bottle of wine, cheesy nachos in the oven and a good Denzel Washington movie. (now that I’m pregnant I’ll have to make do with a glass of coke but if I wasn’t pregnant it would be white wine all the way!)
How would you describe your day-to-day style? Where is your favourite place to shop?
My day to day style depends on the season, autumn is my fav time for style because you can layer up and the colours of rust, olive green and mustard are my favourite tones especially with my copper toned hair. I would say my style is casual and colourful with some quirky details. :)
Asides from blogging, what are your hobbies?
I like to upcycle furniture, sewing, photography and really any crafts I can get my hands on!
